Waiting for Movies

Anyone who knows me knows that I’m a movie nut. Back in high school, certain movies were dubbed “Stuart movies” because they were certain to appeal to me. Many movies could carry that label, but most of the culprits were fantasy movies or historical epics.

This coming year looks to be a good year for Stuart movies.

Here’s a selection of movies I’m waiting to see.

Robin Hood – Gladiator and (the director’s cut of) Kingdom of Heaven are a couple of my very favorite movies. I’ve gladly double dipped Gladiator DVDs and just committed a triple dip on Kingdom of Heaven. (How could I resist a $10 Blu-Ray for my new player? :D) So seeing that both Crowe and Scott are returning to another historical epic next summer, consider my ticket already bought.

Solomon Kane – I wanted to love Van Helsing so bad, but just can’t. I love Hugh Jackman in the role and the general concept of the character, but the movie just wasn’t a very good one. As it turns out, Solomon Kane is the character I was looking for in VH. Kane is a lesser known character from Robert E. Howard (creator of Conan for you heathens), but one I find much more engaging than the barbarian. Add the fact that HBO Rome’s James Purefroy is donning the hat and coat (and pistols and rapier), I’m just waiting for a US distributor to pick up the film and announce a date.

Clash of the Titans - As a child, the original movie both thrilled me and scared my pants off. Anything associated with Greek mythology always grabbed my interest, and still does. The linked trailer does look a bit like the movie 300, but who can turn down Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes as Zeus and Hades? If you do watch the trailer, watch the second one in HD. Yes, it’s worth the wait to download.

Are there any movies that you all are waiting for?
